Alessia Cara
At the age of 19, she debuted her single for her debut album Here. This single received high praise both from listeners and critics. The single peaked at 19th in both the Canadian Hot 100 as well as the Billboard Hot 100. Even Rolling Stone ranked the track as one of the year's Top Songs. The same year, she debuted her album Know It All with the third song Scars to Your Beautiful being one of the five original songs which peaked on the Billboard charts. It also topped the Canadian Albums Chart Billboard 200 as well as the Billboard Hot 100. This particular track was special due to her interview with rapper Rap-Up, many of the listeners connected to her experience in self-doubt as well as learning how to be a better person. Cara is well-known for including messages on emotional health, kindness and love of self in her songs. Her music is a reflection of her own personal struggles to deal with depression and insomnia. In an Reuters interview she describes the album as tumultuous and half perfected. She says she grew by therapy and is adamant about encouraging anyone else to seek out help in times of need. At the age of 10 young, her parents gifted her a guitar which became the foundation of her musical passion. She began covering her favourite songs at age 13 in order to show everyone that she was a singer with the abilities and determination that was required to become a performer. One of her covers, Sweater Weather, was the one that got her attention. EP Entertainment gave her the opportunity to compose and record her own tracks.
